Our Story
About Friend Animal Foundation
The Friend Animal Foundation was founded in 1997 by Jean Friend, a devoted animal lover, when she took over Filippa’s Kennels in Tynwald North. Sadly, Jean passed away in 1998, leaving her estate in trust to support the Foundation and other animal welfare organizations.
During the farm invasions of 2000, FAF played a crucial role by boarding pets free of charge and, in partnership with COMMAIR/British Airways, relocating them safely to homes around the world.
Economic challenges over the years saw the trust fund deplete by 2017, leading to the formation of a new board of trustees and management committee dedicated to continuing Jean’s legacy.

To rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need while promoting compassionate care and responsible pet ownership.
Vision
To serve as Zimbabwe’s leading model no-kill shelter and a regional example of humane animal welfare.
Our Status
FAF is the largest no-kill animal shelter in Zimbabwe. We are currently in the process of registering as a Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO), which will open doors to more international partnerships and support.
